The Pigmented is a black woman-owned brand that epitomizes a commitment to ethical, cruelty-free haircare, thoughtfully formulated through a fusion of modern science and ancient herbal wisdom sourced from across the globe. Central to our philosophy is an unwavering belief in the potent healing properties of herbs. Our products are meticulously curated to present an innovative, holistic approach that has consistently demonstrated the ability to enrich, fortify, and elongate hair of diverse types, as underscored by the rich tapestry of cultures throughout history.


The Pigmented is committed to introducing the world's vast herbal diversity to the cosmetics industry. We aim to shatter conventional norms within the beauty industry by seamlessly fusing trichology, the scientific study of hair and the scalp, with age-old herbal remedies across our product range. Our distinctive system sets us apart from the ordinary formulas prevalent in most mainstream haircare products.

Our Story

Hailing from the picturesque Caribbean island of Jamaica, our founder's roots exposed her to the intrinsic value of herbal remedies, a practice deeply ingrained in her family and culture.   

When our founder moved to the United States at age 12, her hair became dry and brittle due to the change in climate. Her tightly coiled curls began experiencing severe breakage and nothing she tried helped treated it, so she embarked on studying cosmetology in a dual enrollment program for 3 years in high school and soon after began formulating hair products in her own kitchen using herbal remedies from traditions passed down in her Jamaican family and culture. She continued formulating products and testing it on her hair for over 8 years, and her hair flourished beyond her expectations. One random day during the COVID-19 pandemic, she took a leap of faith and shared a DIY video of a formulation that retained moisture and preserved  her hair’s length to help others experiencing the same issue, which miraculously reached an astonishing 2 million people and a following of over 40,000 people overnight. Thousands of people encouraged her to start a business, birthing The Pigmented.
